In sharp contrast to last year’s unusually warm Christmas, sleeting rain has coated my house in a glossy sheet of ice. The chill of freezing temperatures whistles in the wind. Smoke dances from chimneys warmed from fires blazing in the hearth. The promise of a White Christmas brings a spark of joy to my nieces eyes as we watch the sleeting rain turn to falling snow in the moonlight. It’s hot chocolate time! This is a recipe I brought home with me from Bordeaux. French hot chocolate tastes like a Hershey’s bar melting in a creamy wonderland. Best in small doses, this is a rich treat that hints at the promises of the coming New Year.
Cook Time: 5 minutes Makes: 1 (4oz) cuppa
1/4 cup whole milk
1/2 tablespoon milk chocolate chips
1/2 tablespoon dark chocolate chips
1/2 tablespoon sugar
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat whisking constantly until the chocolate chips are melted. Who knew French cooking could be so easy!
