With 10 million copies in print, Ina Garten has more than taken the culinary world by storm as a celebrity chef and cookbook author. But can she captivate audiences on her latest book tour promoting her new cookbook Make It Ahead? Of course she can. She’s the Barefoot Contessa!
It was an enjoyable evening On the beautiful, Colonial inspired SMU campus complete with gas burning lamps alighting the buildings! Although I had horrible seats at the back of SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium, I really enjoyed hearing Ina’s tips and tricks for navigating the world of celebrity chefs. Interviewed by Pat Sharpe, Ina was, for all intents and purposes, an open book strolling the key strategic decisions of memory lane that led to her current success. (And for those of you who know me well, I am delighted to tell you that even Ina pronounces “croissant” in the true french style! Yep, just like moi!)
As a food blogger in the niche market of cooking for one, I often find myself questioning the sustainability of balancing a full time corporate job with a full time cooking blog. Not gonna lie, like any profession, blogging requires time, money and a well rounded viewpoint aimed at capturing taste memories in words, pictures and recipe instruction. Sounds easy, right! It is…once you have the right words, a good camera and an easy to follow recipe. How will I manage that?
I’ll manage it Barefoot Contessa style – by doing something simple in an interesting way. Focus on quality, hone your recipe until it’s foolproof, share it with friends just to see what they like and let the rest take care of itself! Of course, I’ll be getting a DSLR camera….pronto! An iPhone camera just doesn’t do Ina justice!
